Technique Update: Even More Best Practices for Crafting with French Knots, Blanket Stitching & Ruffles

Fran’s Fab Finds: Level Up Your Crafting Game!

Hey crafty friends! Fran here, and I’m super excited to share some awesome tips and tricks that’ll take your projects to the next level. We’re diving deep into some techniques I’ve already shared on my website, but this time, we’re adding that extra oomph!

French Knot Frenzy!

French knots can be a bit tricky, right? But fear not! I’ve got a game-changing tip to avoid that annoying thread tangling. When you’re pulling the thread through, use a needle to guide it through those previously knotted areas. Trust me, it makes a world of difference!

Ruffle Mania!

Ruffles add such a fun, flirty touch to any project. If you’re working with wired ribbons, here’s a little secret: pull the wire and ruffle along it for perfectly gathered fabric. Just a word of caution – if you’re thinking of using your sewing machine, be careful! That wire can be a real needle-breaker.

Blanket Stitch Bliss!

Let’s talk blanket stitch! To keep things smooth and knot-free, pull the fabric through, leaving just a tiny edge. Then, hold that thread with your thumb and finger while you stitch away. And for those of you who love working with metallic cording (like me!), grab a needle with a larger eye. This will prevent the cording from twisting and keep your project looking flawless. If your thread gets bent out of shape, don’t worry! Just re-needle it, and you’re good to go.

I’m a self-taught crafter with a passion for turning imagination into reality. After retiring from a rewarding career as a nurse, I traded my scrubs for scissors and have been happily sewing up a storm ever since.

I love sharing my journey into the wonderful world of crafting on my blog. Here, you’ll find everything from the project ideas that spark my creativity to the techniques and resources that bring them to life. Whether I’m creating whimsical art dolls, cozy home decor, or magical Christmas ornaments, my goal is to inspire you to find joy in making things with your own hands.
