Hola, mis amigos! 🌴☀️
Welcome back to my crafty corner! If you’ve been following my latest journey, you know I recently traded my sewing room for the sun-drenched shores of Puerto Morelos in the beautiful Riviera Maya. But let’s be honest—did you really think I’d go on holiday and not find a way to bring some crafting magic back with me? 🧵✨
I have had the most incredible time soaking up the Mexican sunshine, and today I want to share how I’ve been keeping those holiday memories alive. Plus, I have some very special new “friends” to introduce to you! 🧸🇲🇽
🌮 The Heart and Soul of Mexico
Before we get into the crafts, I have to talk about the incredible people. 💖 One of the things I love most about visiting Mexico is the genuine friendliness and warmth of everyone I meet. Whether I was wandering through the town square or popping into a local shop, the hospitality was just unmatched.
The culture here is so vibrant and welcoming; it really makes you want to slow down and appreciate the moment. That “slow life” vibe is exactly what inspired my latest projects! 🐢✨
🧵 Scouting for Vibrant Mexican Fabrics
You know me—I can’t pass a fabric shop without peaking in! 🛍️ I stumbled upon some absolutely stunning traditional Mexican cottons. The colours are electric—think bold teals, hot pinks, and sunny yellows that just radiate the energy of the Riviera Maya. 🌈
I didn’t just want a typical souvenir; I wanted a piece of the culture I could actually touch and sew. These fabrics are now the heart of my latest creations, and every time I look at them, I’m transported right back to the colourful streets of Puerto Morelos.
🧸 Meet the Mexican Memory Bears!
I am so excited to finally show these off! I’ve been busy creating a special set of Mexican Memory Bears using those gorgeous local fabrics. 🧸🇲🇽
- The Design: I’ve used a mix of those vibrant prints to give them an authentic Mexican feel.
- The “Fran” Touch: As always, each bear has a little heart sewn in, filled with all the happy memories of the trip.
- The Sentiment: These bears are more than just cuddly toys; they are a physical way to “bottle up” the holiday. They carry the spirit of the people and the place right in their seams. 💖
💾 High-Tech Memory Keeping: The USB Trick!
Now, here is a little secret for all my fellow memory-keepers! 📂 I love digital photos, but I hate the idea of them just sitting on a phone forever.
To make my bears truly “living” memories, I’ve started using USB sticks. 💾 I download my favourite clips and photos of the trip—the waves, the markets, the laughter—and I tuck that USB right into a special little spot with the bear.
This way, years from now, when I hold my Mexican Memory Bear, I’m not just holding a handmade friend; I’m holding the actual digital record of my travels. It’s the ultimate way to ensure those precious moments are never lost! 📸📽️
🏺 Getting Creative with “Ceramic Stone”
I also spent a wonderful afternoon at a local studio working with “Ceramic Stone” from Cancun. 🏔️ It’s such a unique, “slow-craft” experience. I sat down, picked up a brush, and just let my imagination run wild. 🖌️ The shop then fires and cures the pieces so you can take a finished masterpiece home in your suitcase. It’s such a lovely, tactile way to connect with the local earth and culture. 🎨✨
🌵 Tips for Your Own Holiday Memory Keeping
If you’re heading off on your own adventure soon, remember:
- Look for local textiles: Fabrics are easy to pack and make the most sentimental projects later.
- Embrace the local culture: Chat with the makers! The friendliness of the people is the best memory of all. 🌮❤️
- Mix digital and physical: Use a USB stick to keep your photos “attached” to your handmade keepsakes.

Hasta luego, and keep crafting with love! 💖🇲🇽
