Welcome to a special edition of my crafting journey! This month, I’m taking you “on location” as I swap my usual studio for the beautiful scenery of the Riviera Maya in Mexico.
Greetings from Mexico!
While I usually spend my February crafting at home, some personal losses and the celebration of my 48th wedding anniversary led us to Cancun. I didn’t want to stop sharing my passion with you for two weeks, so I’ve decided to treat this trip like a news anchor “on location.” For the rest of the month, my focus will be shifting toward the incredible world of Mexican culture and artistry.
Looking Back at January
Before we dive into the local crafts here, let’s take a quick look at what we accomplished last month:
- Master Class: We completed our snail project, where I showed you various fabric types and techniques.
- Resource Focus: I placed a heavy emphasis on where to find materials, which will be a major theme for us throughout this year.
- Table Decor: I shared my Christmas table decor project, using a sentimental tablecloth I’ve owned for years to demonstrate how to refresh your decor each month.
- Skills & Techniques: We also covered several videos on basic crafting skills to help build your foundation.
Mexican Crafting Inspiration
Since I can’t start a major project of my own while traveling, I’m going to explore how the local artisans here create their masterpieces. I’ll be venturing out to learn about:
- Ceramics & Wood Carvings: I want to see the process behind these traditional pieces.
- Lapidary Work: Exploring the local stone and gem crafting.
- Hotel Decor: I’ve even been inspired by the intricate blanket folding in our hotel room! I’m hoping to convince one of the talented staff members to show me their techniques.
- Local Art Shops: I plan to visit a ceramic painting shop to talk with the artists about their methods and whether they ship their work globally.
Staying Connected
I’m so excited to bring you along on this artistic adventure. While I won’t be producing a physical project myself this month, I hope to bring you immense artistic value by showcasing the vibrant talent found here in Mexico.
Thanks for joining me on this journey—I’ll talk to you soon!
