Fran’s Friends June Crafting Plans: And it’s Teddy Bear Making Month

May’s Marvelous Makes: A Whirlwind of Creativity!

May was absolutely jam-packed with delightful projects, and I loved every minute of bringing these ideas to life.

  • My Enchanting Advent Ornament: I successfully completed May’s Advent ornament, and it turned out beautifully! This piece is a lovely embroidered design, richly adorned with various ribbons that add so much texture and charm. The real highlight, though, is the fancy center – it just pulls the whole design together and makes it feel extra special.
  • Silken Delights: My Fabric Flower Tutorial: For those of you who love adding a touch of elegance to your projects, I put together a detailed tutorial on how to make exquisite silk and fabric flowers. They’re perfect for embellishing anything from garments to home decor, and I hope you found it inspiring!
  • The Magic of Replication: My “Mommy Mouse” Project: One of my favorite things to do is show how you can take an existing craft project and replicate it with your own unique twist. My “Mommy Mouse” project was a perfect example of this! You might remember the original “Mommy Mouse” I made, dressed in a lovely shade of blue. Well, for the replication, I dressed her in vibrant orange, proving how a simple color change can totally transform a piece. And for an extra dose of cuteness, “Mommy Mouse” holds smaller mice, creating a heartwarming little family scene. Keep an eye out – I even gave you a sneak peek of the next “Mommy Mouse” waiting patiently to get her own special outfit!
  • Feathered Friends: ‘Birds of a Feather’ My “Farm Friends” series continued with the creation of a chicken and rooster. These guys are so full of character and make fantastic additions to any rustic or farmhouse-themed decor.
  • Taming the Textile Tangle: Fabric Organization Tips: We all know how quickly crafting fabrics can get out of hand! To help you bring some order to your creative space, I shared my top tips on how to sort and organize your crafting fabrics efficiently. A tidy craft room is a happy craft room, right?

Treasures for Crafters: My Favorite Resources!

I’m always on the lookout for fantastic resources to inspire and guide our crafting journeys. Here are some of my recent favorites that I just had to share:

Firstly, the return of knitting and macrame has caught me off guard. As I mention in the video, one of the first things I ever learned how to knit was slippers. I’ve included the Paton’s template below!

  • “Lisa Handicrafts Earth” on YouTube: If you’re into embroidery, you absolutely must check out this YouTube channel. Lisa creates wonderful, short videos demonstrating various embroidery techniques. You’ll learn how to create delicate leaves, intricate flowers, and even stunning beaded works. It’s a goldmine for anyone wanting to expand their stitching skills!
  • “Bear Pile” on Facebook: For all my fellow teddy bear enthusiasts, the “Bear Pile” Facebook page is a real treat. It’s packed with inspiring examples of various teddy bears, offering endless ideas and eye candy for your next bear-making adventure.
  • “The Ornament Girl” on Facebook: This Facebook page is a dream come true for anyone who loves making beautiful quilted ornaments. They offer fantastic tutorials and patterns, including one for a gorgeous ornament that looks just like a blossoming flower. You’ll be amazed at what you can create!
  • “Art, Crafts and Journals” on Facebook: This page is a delightful mixed bag of diverse crafting content, keeping things fresh and exciting. I recently saw a post about making a volcanic eruption – how cool is that for an art project?! You never know what creative idea you’ll stumble upon here.
  • “Tailoring Time” on YouTube: For quick and practical tutorials, “Tailoring Time” is excellent. They show you how to make fabric tassels, also known as “Latkins.” These are so versatile and practical for decorating garments, bags, or even home textiles. They add such a lovely, handcrafted touch.

June’s Grand Adventure: It’s Teddy Bear Making Month!

Get ready, because June is officially dedicated to one of the most heartwarming crafts of all: teddy bear making! I am beyond excited for this month, as I have some really fun and interesting projects planned.

  • Introducing First Mate: My Sailor Bear Project! My primary focus this month will be working on the First Mateteddy bear pattern by the incredibly talented Lisa Pay. This is a truly special bear – he’s a 13-inch teddy bear, and the best part is that he’s designed to be dressed as an adorable sailor! I’ll be taking you through the process of bringing this charming little seafarer to life, from cutting the pattern pieces to assembling his cuddly form and stitching on his delightful sailor suit.
  • The Wonders of Two-Hour Teddy Bears by Anita Louise Crane: Alongside First Mate, I’ll be diving into the fantastic book Two-Hour Teddy Bears by Anita Louise Crane. This book is a game-changer for anyone looking for a quicker, yet still incredibly satisfying, way to make teddy bears. The secret lies in its innovative “sock” method. Instead of traditional flat pattern pieces, you sew the pattern directly onto a tube of fabric (like a sock!). This significantly speeds up the process, making it possible to create a complete teddy bear in a surprisingly short amount of time. I’m really looking forward to sharing the tips and tricks from this method with you.
  • Knitting Up a Storm: The i-Cord Machine for my Horse Mane! To add another layer of creativity to another project – a Horse, I’ll be exploring the use of an i-cord knitting machine. This clever little device allows you to quickly and easily create continuous lengths of knitted “cord” or “thread.” My plan is to use this i-cord to create the “thread” for my bears, possibly for their embroidered features, detailing, or even small accessories. It’s an exciting way to integrate another craft into our teddy bear making.
  • Fish Pillows! And finally, to ensure you can adapt any pattern to your needs, I’ll be demonstrating how to enlarge patterns using my “Pattern Resizing for Crafting Tutorial.” As you can see, I used this technique to create larger fish pillows based on an existing pattern. This is a super practical skill that will open up so many possibilities for your crafting, whether you want to make a bear bigger, a detail smaller, or adjust any design to your desired scale.

I’m truly buzzing with excitement for a fun-filled June packed with cuddly creations and new techniques. I can’t wait to share all the progress and discoveries with you.

I’m a self-taught crafter with a passion for turning imagination into reality. After retiring from a rewarding career as a nurse, I traded my scrubs for scissors and have been happily sewing up a storm ever since.

I love sharing my journey into the wonderful world of crafting on my blog. Here, you’ll find everything from the project ideas that spark my creativity to the techniques and resources that bring them to life. Whether I’m creating whimsical art dolls, cozy home decor, or magical Christmas ornaments, my goal is to inspire you to find joy in making things with your own hands.
