About Fran

Once upon a time there was a little girl who cut the fur off of her mother’s boots to make a coat for her barbie doll.  Many years later that same little girl used her husband’s fur golf club cover to make a cap for a Christmas nutcracker only to find out that the cover belonged to his golfing partner.  While I often have some explaining to do, I’m a resourceful crafter.

My passion for craft work has never diminished and upon retirement the availability of time has provided me with the opportunity to flourish creatively.

My projects are almost always inspired by my experiences and memories — family, travel and nature. My world of creativity is an  ever expanding canvas.  My inspiration comes from many sources: facebook (especially the patterns from Lisa Pay, YouTube, Google (images), and even old books.

I am very much a self-taught crafter. When I start a project, I research all types of patterns and techniques and incorporate them into my own vision that I can cherish forever.

Great gratification comes from using recycled fabrics such as my old suits, t-shirts, pillow cases, jeans, lace, ribbons and buttons.  Making doll hats and purses out of mason jar lids is a favourite.  As well the satisfaction comes when a project cost me little or no money.  The challenge is the greatest thrill.

My family plays an integral part providing me with the utmost encouragement and support.

Fran’s Crafting Philosophy

  • Incorporate your own personality and passions into your creative crafting projects. Use your experiences and memories to create a one-of-a-kind finished result that you can treasure. Put your own signature on it.
  • Research, research and more research. Before you start anything, do your homework by planning the details of your project.
    Fabrics – colours and textures.
    Patterns – sizes and shapes.
Resources – YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Google images.
  • Take your time as these projects are a process and not an assembly line. “A stitch in time saves nine.”
  • Laugh at yourself when you make a mistake. Use the mistake to facilitate the problem solving process.
Remember that we learn by our mistakes.
  • Above all, love what you do and enjoy the process.
  • Have fun.

I’m a self-taught crafter with a passion for turning imagination into reality. After retiring from a rewarding career as a nurse, I traded my scrubs for scissors and have been happily sewing up a storm ever since.

I love sharing my journey into the wonderful world of crafting on my blog. Here, you’ll find everything from the project ideas that spark my creativity to the techniques and resources that bring them to life. Whether I’m creating whimsical art dolls, cozy home decor, or magical Christmas ornaments, my goal is to inspire you to find joy in making things with your own hands.
