Hola from Cancun, Mexico! I’ve been soaking up the sun and inspiration here for a few days now, and I couldn’t help but wonder how I could weave my love for crafting into this beautiful vacation. It turns out, inspiration is everywhere you look!
Capturing the Local Art Scene
Since arriving, I’ve been on a mission to document the vibrant creativity surrounding me. Earlier this week, I stumbled upon a wonderful ceramic class where they were painting pre-kiln ceramics right on site. It was such a joy to watch the colours come to life! I’ve also been quietly admiring (and videoing!) the artistry in our own hotel room—specifically the incredible way the staff folds towels into intricate shapes. It’s a craft in its own right!
A Work in Progress: Resort Activities
I’m staying at a relatively new resort that just opened in November, so things are still evolving here. I’ve been taking a close look at their activity schedule, specifically focusing on what they offer for both seniors and children.
I’ve noticed a few things that could use a “crafter’s touch.” I’m hoping to share some of my ideas with the wonderful staff here regarding:

- New Craft Ideas: Why not teach guests how to do those famous towel folds, like the dogs or swans we see on our beds?
Upcoming Adventures & Experiments
The crafting exploration doesn’t stop here! Next week, I’ll be filming a class on making small woolen keepsakes, and another one that incorporates used corks into creative projects. I’m also planning a trip to Playa del Carmen to look at traditional blankets and jewelry.
My goal is to find a colourful Mexican blanket and figure out how to incorporate its unique patterns and textures into a project that serves as a beautiful vacation memory.
Bringing the Spirit of Mexico Home
Mexico is such an intrinsically colorful country, where art and culture are deeply integrated—from the vibrant textiles to the meaningful “Day of the Dead” skulls. When I return home, my focus for the rest of February will be on how to turn these vacation experiences into a “memory package.”
I want to show you how to use specific fabrics, paints, and colors to bottle up that holiday feeling and keep it forever. Stay tuned for more updates from the heat of Cancun!
