Meet ‘Sugar’ my Embroidery Bear: Techniques to improve your fabric edges

My Thread-tastic New Hobby!

I’ve been on a mission to try something new, and let me tell you, embroidery has completely captured my heart! It’s like a whole new world has opened up, filled with colorful threads and tiny, sparkly beads. In the video, you can see me getting started on a project, and I’m so excited about it. I’ve been practicing a blanket stitch with beads to create beautiful borders, and I’ve been using old pillowcases to get the hang of it. My little wooden frame is a total lifesaver for keeping the fabric just right.

A Bear-y Special Project!

But the real star of the show is the teddy bear I just finished! I mean, isn’t he the cutest? I had so much fun making him. I used some of my practice embroidery rows from the pillowcase fabric and sewed them right onto his dress. I also added more embroidery, beads, and pearls to his dress and a little heart-shaped accessory. I even used the blanket stitch on his ears and the hearts to tie it all together. It was such a joy to see him come to life with all that detail!

What’s Next? A Winter Wonderland!

Now that I’ve got the hang of it, the ideas are just flowing! I’m already planning my next project: a Christmas ornament with a three-dimensional wreath effect. I’ll be using circular stitches and beads to make it look all puffy and festive. It’s amazing how much I’ve learned in such a short time, and I really hope this inspires you to try your hand at embroidery too. It’s so rewarding to create something with your own two hands.

I’m a self-taught crafter with a passion for turning imagination into reality. After retiring from a rewarding career as a nurse, I traded my scrubs for scissors and have been happily sewing up a storm ever since.

I love sharing my journey into the wonderful world of crafting on my blog. Here, you’ll find everything from the project ideas that spark my creativity to the techniques and resources that bring them to life. Whether I’m creating whimsical art dolls, cozy home decor, or magical Christmas ornaments, my goal is to inspire you to find joy in making things with your own hands.
