Hello fellow crafters! Fran here, and I’m so excited to share with you the latest addition to our “12 Month Advent Calendar” series. For August, we’re making the most adorable little angel ornament. This project is a great way to use up some of your fabric scraps and add a touch of handmade charm to your Christmas decorations.
Materials and Construction
To create this little angel, you’ll need two main pieces of fabric. The top part is a heart shape, which I created by using a heat and bond material on a silky fabric. I then ironed it onto a pillow casing material before carefully cutting out the heart. For the bottom half, I used a circle made from two pieces of fabric sewn together, clipped, and then turned inside out.
The head is a simple button covered with fabric in a yo-yo style. I embellished it with tiny pearls to give it a little extra sparkle.
Embellishments and Finishing Touches
The most time-consuming part of this project was the detailed stitching and beading, but it’s totally worth the effort for the final look. I used a blanket stitch with tiny beads to go all the way around the edges of both the heart and the circular bottom piece. A little tip: make sure to measure your bead to keep your stitching even and straight.
I also added small hearts, which I made using the same heat and bond method, and adorned each one with three pearls. To complete the look, I added a small jewel for the mouth and some tiny bows for decoration. I also added a ribbon across the top of the head for a halo effect.
On the back, a small felt disc was used to secure the holder, making it ready to hang on the tree.
I hope you enjoy making this sweet little angel as much as I did. Happy crafting!
