Keeping the Christmas Spirit Alive All Year Round: My Advent Calendar Project
Hello everyone, Fran here! I’m so excited to share my latest crafting adventure with you – a year-round advent calendar! Yes, you heard that right. I wanted to find a way to keep that warm, fuzzy Christmas feeling alive throughout the entire year, and I thought, what better way than to create an advent calendar that celebrates each month?
I’ve been working on a fabric advent calendar, and it’s been such a joy to see it come to life. The idea is to have a little pocket for each month, and inside each pocket, a special ornament that reflects the spirit of that time of year.
Let’s dive into some of the details, shall we?
February: A Heartfelt Start
Since we’re currently in February, I decided to focus on Valentine’s Day. I created two adorable hearts using some quilted fabric. I wanted to add a touch of sparkle, so I used metallic blanket stitching around the edges. They turned out so lovely, and they perfectly capture the romantic feel of the month.
Looking Ahead: March and Beyond
I’m already planning ahead for March, and I’m thinking lots of greens for St. Patrick’s Day! I haven’t quite decided on the exact design yet, but I’m leaning towards some shamrock shapes or maybe even a little pot of gold. The possibilities are endless!
The Technical Details
For those of you who are interested in creating your own advent calendar, I’ve put together a full tutorial on my website. You’ll find all the measurements and instructions you need to get started.
One thing I’ve learned is that keeping the ornaments around 4 inches in size seems to work best. It’s large enough to show off the details, but not too big that it becomes bulky.
The Great Attachment Debate
Currently, I’m still debating the best way to attach the ornaments. Should I use little hoops, maybe some rope, or perhaps a pretty ribbon? I’m leaning towards ribbon as it seems the most versatile, but I’m open to suggestions! What do you think would work best?
A Year of Creativity
I’m so looking forward to filling each month with unique and meaningful ornaments. It’s a project that allows me to be creative and to celebrate the little moments that make each month special.
I hope you’re as excited about this project as I am! I’ll be sharing updates as I create each month’s ornament, so stay tuned. And don’t forget to check out my website for the full tutorial on how to make your own year-round advent calendar.
Happy crafting!
